View Full Version : What's the Big Deal Over Digital TV?

I have wondered why there has been so much governmental blathering about the switchover to digital TV. This switchover was already pushed back once because not enough people had prepared. Also the government (us) have been paying for convertor boxes for people using rabbit ears with old TV sets.
I wondered why watching TV had become some sort of "right" rather than a privilege.

The truth to this was revealed while listening to Paul W. Smith on WJR/Detroit interview the Secretary of Commerce. When asked about this emphasis on the digital switchover, he said that many more minorities and poor people were not prepared for the switchover and that's why the government had to "help out". Paul W. asked a great follow up question about why is TV watching a right and why can't they get their news from other sources such as radio. That stumped the Secretary -- another Obama hack.

I don't get it either? I need a break on my satellite bill as it is now and they keep raising the friggin taxes on me.I'm on satellite for internet access and I have to deal w the download act that slows my shit down.
I don't even own a TV that has rabbit ears.

Haven't you seen the hulu.com ads? It's a plot by aliens to melt our brains.

Seriously, I think it was stupid. I make a decent salary and still have rabbit ears and a "free" converter box my parents gave me. They gave up and just bought a newer TV. TV and Health care are not "rights". They are, as we say in manufacturing "nice to haves".

I don't think it's really a big deal at all. I don't think many will lose their TV on the switch. But there is a reason the media is making a big deal about this.

Television is the media's (and thus the government's) primary propaganda device. Through TV they reach the majority of the US population. So many people watch television and just let it do the thinking for them, absorbing everything they see without challenging a thing. This is a very powerful medium for propagandists. I loved the Batman movie where Edward Nygma had his mind machine through the TV, which emitted that green beam and literally zapped the minds of viewers! And the Hulu ads are funny too. ALso that interview with Paul Smith and the Secretary of Commerce is telling - the government must "help out" because it can't risk losing it's propaganda control over the masses, especially the poor masses, whom government... utilizes! ;)

Exactly my take on the situation, control the risk of insubordinate & revolutionary behavior by a continuous drip of propaganda, the Mases must be informed! :coffee

You're right Nelson, even the poorest of the poor often have tv's (flat screen rentals in some cases).

Turn off the tube and stop being a boob! Turn on your computer cause it will make you smarter!:rofl We will always have the propaganda war...it is just that we don't fight as dirty as the other side! Maybe we should take off the kid gloves! Seriously, we are far to worried about being fair and balanced that we forget that the truth is not fair...it is just the truth! The libs don't give the truth another thought as they just march on with their lies! It is time to kick some butt!:gun:

Usually the poorest of the poor in the US has a TV in every room AND cable. Th eUS definition of poverty is amazingly skewed. Try spending an hour in the colonias in a border town. We brought Christmas presents and our hearts were ripped to shreds for some of those people.

3 years from now they will be unemployed and waiting on their Messiah to lift them up into his arms and literally save them...and of course that is exactly what his plan is! He, like FDR want this recession to tumble down into more chaos so they can restart and remake this nation into the nanny-state they invision where they control every aspect of our lives from the food we eat to the thoughts we have(cradle to grave)(tomb to the womb)and many, many minorities and the generational poor are fine with that prospect! We will all be slaves and BHO the master and America will one large plantation! :(
