Great vid, Roy. He makes great points as usual. O'Rourke is one of my favorite writers. I howled when reading, "Parliment of Whores" and "All the Trouble in the World". He is a true conservative hell-raiser (a bit of an oxymoron). I believe he used to edit the National Review and his first article in 1979 was, "How to Drive Fast on Drugs While Getting Your Wing-Wang Squeezed and Not Spill Your Drink". Libs don't know what to make of him, which is a good thing.

That's really interesting commentary, thanks, I enjoyed it. At the end there was an exchange, beginning with an insightful analogy, that could benefit a lot of people if their minds were open to it:

Ted Balaker:
This job creation hocus-pocus... is it really just back to the time when we were primitive tribesmen, and we killed the king if we had a bad crop yield, and we praised the king if we had a great harvest?"

P.J. O’Rourke:
It isn't back to that time, it's always been that time.

We look to political leadership for all sorts of things that political leadership can't deliver... The real job [of political leadership] is not to back one side or back another side; it's to convince people to back away from politics.

Government... is there for very, very limited purposes. There are just a few things that we need from the political system. We do need rule of law, we do need protection from external enemies, [we need government] to help in utter catastrophes when we are completely incapable of helping ourselves.... And that's it. When we start to ask [government], 'could you make sure our food has not trans fats, and my shoes don't fit, and could you get me a better haircut?' ... they'll say yes, because they love power. [But] they're not going to do a good job, because you can't task an organization with that many duties and expect them to do all of them - or even any of them - well. So it's self-defeating. People will use your requests to grab power from you. And they will also do a damn bad job with the power that they've got.

Powerful and true words indeed. Thanks for transcribing them.
