I admit, I'm more into sports than I am into politics. However, the recent fight between University of Miami and Florida International has gotten my attention.

The Faculty at Florida International has pulled the scholarships of the two players who started the fight, and suspended 16 others indefinately.

The University of Miami, suspended 13 players for one game. After watching the video, I am appalled that the University of Miami lets these thugs continue to wear their colors and take the field in their name.

The University of Miami, where mere thugs become carrer criminals.

Probably more into politics than sports here, but I agree with you. It's more than just Miami. This is happening throughout collegiate and professional athletics and even throughout society. Welcome to our new culture of unaccountability. Despicable, ain't it. I can't point to any single cause - to understand why this is happening today I think requires a judgemental look at recent US history.

Big league college sports is not about sports or politics, It's about money.
Donations from alumni and sponsors that want (pay) to see wins.
They've even ruined the Olympics with professionalism. I was appalled (sickened) when the US first fielded the "Dream Team". Such a blatant example of poor sportsmanship is disgusting.
The "Corinthian" ethic of amatuer sports has been dead for years.
And it's all been actively supported by the fans. What do you expect? You've all got what you wanted, it's a bit late to call foul.

Shazbat I see your point. I too did not like the original Dream Team concept. Other countries may send pro athletes to the Olympics; as leaders I wish the US had never joined that fray. Still, I don't think fans, capitalism or money are to blame for epidemic unaccountability and violence in sports, which is a reflection of society at large. IMO there is another catalyst that provokes this explosion, a corrosive ingredient that removes all restraint from the profit motive.

Sorry Nelson, I was not commenting on "violence" in sport.
That's been around from the beginning of time.
Dog and chicken fighting, the Roman Gladitorial games etc. are all examples.
My only comment was related to the disparity of punishment from one college to the next.
Sorry I wasn't more clear there.
Your own comment though about "the corrosive ingredient that removes all restraint from the profit motive" shows that you too see the power of money in amatuer sport.
The NCAA needs to quit pandering to the colleges and make them responsible.

The NCAA needs to quit pandering to the colleges and make them responsible.Well I couldn't agree more. Some of the "punishments" dealt these days are a joke. I'd like to see some real examples made - careers ended - to get the message across.
