The first half of this historic process is over with Saddam being found guilty and sentenced to death by hanging. Now begins the appeals process, I do not know how long the appeals process will take but since the tribunal is based on Iraqi law once the appeals process is concluded, the sentence must be carried out within 30 days!!!

Freethinker, the following quote from your above link speaks volumes….
“Almost three years since his capture, soaring sectarian violence has brought Iraq to the brink of civil war.
Few Iraqis think the trial verdict will ease conflict, the BBC's Andrew North in Baghdad says.
Even those who want to see their former leader dead do not believe his execution will make things better, our correspondent says. “
How can a rational thinking person say that things are not better in Iraq? No one said this would be an easy undertaking, few things worth fighting for are, Saddam has brought this onto the people of Iraq, but the process is underway to make a truly positive change to this part of the world and I for one are glad to see things moving forward in a positive way.
The mainstream media seems to always paint the picture in a negative way. Shame on them…

Saddam has been sentenced to death by hanging! What a spectacle that will be. Can't wait for the international "mainstream" media to render its opinionated judgment and call it "news." They're so angrily anti-war, anti-US that it's taking a major toll on their ratings and circulations.

He's getting his just rewards.
Much as many a toppled dictator in historic or recent times.
I agree there will probably be a spectacle on many fronts.
In my opinion the some of it will be the "barbarity" of hanging. Alas consider the culture.
The majority will be the reactions of the Islamic world, both pro and con.
I don't expect him to become the martyr that Osama would be were we to be successful in getting him.

Apparently the appeals process is a lot quicker in Iraq than in the USofA. News reports I heard this morning said that he would be executed before the coming of the New Year - most likely Saturday.
I am not explicitly against the death penalty, although I have some reticence given some problems with the judiciary. In this case, I believe that Saddam's time has come.
