Love him or hate him, no one can deny that Donald Rumsfeld is a patriot.
I can't say whether he did a good job or not. I do believe he did the best he could do with the resources and direction he had.
I don't look upon him as a scape goat, I just believe he elected to avoid adding confusion to the coming reorganization.

A lot of people certainly appear to hate him, though I'm not really sure why. Since the Secretary of Defense serves the President, maybe it's displaced hatred for Bush. At any rate he is gone and who knows the next guy might spark something in Iraq. Whether it's Gates or someone else, hopefully they will allow our guys to do their jobs, meaning kill the bad guys wherever they hide, no matter what the press thinks about it. Well, that would make me happy, anyway. :)
