On the National level I seem to march to party lines, but on State and Local elections Where I know the candidates on a personal level I always vote for the man!

Four for four on Republican - alright we're going to need a token liberal - I might have to get my blogging, liberal, next door neighbor to sign up...
...but then he might figure out that I read his blog and that would spoil the advantage I have over him. Really, I've lived next to this guy for 12 years and never knew he was a Cindy Sheehan supporter.

Ah, yep. I'll go fix it. :o You see, over here, a RUpublican is a Hotel owner with a soft spot for large marsupials. Easy mistake to make.

OK, I need to ask for clarification on 2 points.
One, what do you mean by conservative ideals? What, in the USA, passes for conservatism?
And secondly, what do you mean when you say, "moves left"?
To put it in context, here, left is the Labour party, who are blue collar focussed and Union driven.

Pleasure, Teiwaz...
Tough to really nail American conservatism in a few words but I mean family, rules, Christianity, tradition, hard work, discipline, capitalism, and small federal government. There is a lot more to it but you get the idea. In my mind time has shown that these are the ideals which lead to success.
By moving left I mean moving away from conservatism as above, and toward the strategy of political appeasement -- trying to make everyone happy. Big spending, government entitlements, polling before making decisions, the strategy of the American left. I would rather elect my leaders because I think they agree with my values as above, and because I approve of their character and trust them to lead, not because I necessarily agree with every single position on every single issue.
But that's just a 5 minute attempt to clarify. And I could always change my mind - it's happened before. :) I'm always learning, not perfect, and subject to change.

OK, so conservativism here is really the domain of the Liberal Party. To you that is a contadiction in terms maybe? The Australian Labour Party is the left here, and seems more aligned to your Democrats, but the Democrats seem to be heavily influenced by well heeled acedemics and theoreticians, which is definitely NOT the Labour Party

While I am a member of the Republican Party, I am mostly a libertarian. Of course, there's a party without any political power, lol.

NO VOTE IN THE POLL HERE!
Your poll does not include those that vote for the best candidate based on their background, beliefs, and actions that they have taken in the world in which we live. I evaluate the candidates based on their records before I vote for or against them. I look at the news that reports the beliefs of the candidates in the area before I vote. Most of the time I split my vote. Many of my beliefs fall within the guidelines of what one would consider conservative, but on some votes one would consider me to be a liberal. I vote for the people who serve me best, and who believe as I do. Protect this nation first, then take care of the remainder of the problems.

I tend to be Libertarian, I suppose. The absolute most important thing to me is individual liberty. None of the parties really fit my personal beliefs, but I've tended to vote Republican. The person is more important than the party, though.

You're welcome.
I read and do pay attention. With all the election madness most of what I've seen is just blah, blah back and forth.
Looking forward to getting down to real issues. There's been too little input here for too long and when there is subject material from any source worthy of comment I'll look forward to discussion.
For serious discussion I hate to see someone misrepresent themself. The only freshman that concerns me is the freshman senator that is now our president.
For right now though I am just delighted to see so much new input and enthusiasm.

I'm a registered Dem because when I was 18 I saw both parties as too similar for me to register with either and my grandmother told me she would kill me if I registered Rep. As I've grown a little older, experienced life and watched our government decay I've learned that both parties are truthfully too similar in their actions/inactions to be reliable. I find myself voting primarily for conservatives, but have on occasion voted for a liberal if the candidate had good ideas and seemed trustworthy. Now I don't know what to do as I don't trust any of them. Finally, as a rule I've found that the candidate I favor inevitably is not allowed to compete within the two dominant parties or, in the event that I favor one of the primary candidates said candidate will lose to the opponent that I dislike the most.
History has been re-written by the academics but the truth knows no party! The truth is not fair or balanced! It is hard and it is painful! President Reagan always put the true spirit of of Conservative beliefs first and I stood with him against the the same people our new President is hugging and shaking hands with! People like Castro and Daniel Ortega are not to be reasoned with any more than the Soviets were. We defeated them by playing hard ball and that is the only way to deal with terrorist, Marxist or Pirates for that matter. We need a man like Reagan again! :gun: Jeb

No I don't make it a point to watch the show, this came up in a search, I lost the original bookmark I had on this issue.
Don't feel like the Lone Ranger G, no one watches MSNBC! I mean other than the crew filming it! I am totally ashamed of my former Representative "Morning Joke". He actually used to be a good guy until he went on the network that "Tingles" for BO! Jeb

I'd like you to watch MSNBC with the same critical eye you use with Fox and then tell me with a straight face how "fair and balanced" MSNBC is. Just be careful or you might get the "Tingles", too.

Sorry to hear that.
The only ties I have to the party are my conservative ideals. So as the Republican party continues to move left, I consider changing to Independent.
What's stopping you? I jumped off the Republican bandwagon the minute car dealer Scott Rigell won the nomination in Virginia's 2nd district (http://hubpages.com/hub/Virginias-Second-Congressional-District). I am now supporting independent candidate Kenny Golden (http://hubpages.com/hub/Kenny-Golden-Republican-or-Democrat). He is the only true conservative on the ballot. Rigell donated $1,000 to President Obama's campaign, and incumbent Democrat Glenn Nye voted to make Nancy Pelosi Speaker of the House. Golden supports the FairTax and has more experience in national security than his two opponents combined. He has also called for an outright repeal of Obamacare.

Kenny Golden looks like a good choice -- interesting combination of conservative and libertarian ideas. I am a strong believer in conservative social issues but pragmatically when these are the candidates, the choice is obvious. Same situation here in Ohio -- will vote for Kasich even though he supported the Assault Weapon Ban 15 years ago because the other candidate is a BHO supporter. BTW -- welcome to the forum.
