My wife ran into a friend tonight. She works at a used car wholesaler. She says she's working 50 hours a week to process all the Cash for Clunkers Cars to resell to the "Buy here Pay here" dealers.

I thought they were to be destroyed? Hmmmmm.

Doesn't surprise me. Every Government Program is filled with waste. Of course, these dealers may never have been reimbursed and feel justified in reselling the cars. Our local dealer quit disabling the vehicles pending payment.

They were all supposed to be destroyed. If you know of any that were not I would like to know about it.

I'm with REM and I told my wife the same thing. If the gov doesn't cough up the dough, then they have every right to resell them. Since I don't know, I won't throw my wife's friend under the bus.

Yes, they were required to put that seize compound into the engine and run it until everything locked up. Since it was a horrible program from the get go I say keep those clunkers on the road. Furthermore, why would anyone willingly report someone to big brother that is not a liberal scumbag intent on the destruction of our country?

Well I heard on the news that one report estimates that they will actually have hurt more then help on going green. It was estimated from early reports that people that have the new cars will drive enough more that the average will be that they will burn an extra 60 gallons each in the next year. Again it looks like they just didn't think this through before they gave away our tax dollars.

Destroying the trade ins, many in excellent working condition was another incompetent act by the idiots creating these policies.
It seems since the Obama did put forth this massive payoff to auto manufactures (it was really just another multi-billion dollar stimulus for them) Why not donate the trade-ins to charities to deliver food, or to returning veterans in need or to people who want to work and need cars for jobs.
Oh right. This solved global warming too.

Like most Obama programs, this one should have been killed when there was an inkling of movement.

As far as some dealers cheating the government, well, on this one the government not only planted the seeds of corruption but provided the water to grow it as well which brings me to a question. Where does the government hide it's fraud and corruption on the people? Right in front of our eyes.

Answer: They don't hide it. They have created a culture where a large portion of the citizenry either feels like there is no way to control the government or they themselves are afraid of said government. Our quaking, boot licking media doesn't help matters.

To the best of my knowlege, the C4C vehicles cannot be resold for transportation ever again.Within 6 months(180days)the vehicle must go to a government authorized salvage yard. The salvage yard can strip the parts other than the engine for resale in the used industry.

I read some stats that said from the 250,000 new vehicles sold during the C4C program,200,000 of these vehicles would have been sold during the period any way.

I think the C4C backfired because of the amount of non GM vehicles that were chosen over the GM's.
I'd like to see a break down of the individual makes and models sold.

You nailed it Al. Honda and Toyota were the big winners. Ford and GM came out 3rd and 4th with Chrysler further back. The rest were all foreign makes.

Here's another article. This one is from NPR, so according to our Liberal friends it has to be true. ;) It says that 60% of the sales were foreign:

A friend sent me this:

Do you make decisions like this?? .

A clunker that travels 12,000 miles a year at 15 mpg uses 800 gallons of gas a year.

A vehicle that travels 12,000 miles a year at 25 mpg uses 480 gallons a year.

So, the average Cash for Clunkers transaction will reduce US gasoline consumption by 320 gallons per year.

They claim 700,000 vehicles so that's 224 million gallons saved per year.

That equates to a bit over 5 million barrels of oil.

5 million barrels is approximately 5 hours worth of US consumption. More importantly, 5 million barrels of oil, at $70 per barrel, costs about $350 million dollars.

So, the government paid $3 billion of our tax dollars to save $350 million. (Do the math - it's a mere 880% loss!)

We spent $8.57 for every dollar saved. What a deal!

So keep the faith - they'll do just as great a job with health care, too!!!
