Well, I am here. I am neither Democrat or Republican, but I will take sides and I will follow an idea. I do not like to hear people spout rhetoric, I would much rather talk to someone who has beliefs of their own and will stand by them and back them up with facts and history. I watch our government like a hawk and I watch my representatives and their votes. I believe that people should be responsible for their actions and that they should understand the reason behind their votes.
I am retired military, and I look at history for much of my information. I look for who done what, with which and to whom. Being from the Vietnam era, I took a beating as a result of our government, now I watch the government and I do what I can to right the wrongs. I support our servicemen and I will help them in any way that I can. I will stand up for a person who has served this nation, I don't care about his political beliefs.
I believe that everyone has the right to say what they want to, and I have defended their right to say that, but I will fight that person tooth and nail if that person thinks that they are going to force their beliefs on another. The right to say what is on your mind is a given, but don't think for a second that the right means that you will go unchallenged. I want to know why. Maybe I will understand your point of view if I understand your rationale. Rhetoric is not rationale, I don't care what source provides it.
I believe in the rights of everyone, but don't think for a second that I will give up my rights to bow down to yours. Equal means equal, your rights are no greater than mine. I approach every man and woman as an equal, and I judge the individual by their actions. I read the book ANIMAL FARM in the early 60's and from there I found out that no one's rights are "more equal" than others, regardless of the leadership of the organization.
I have a problem with any organization who says that the rights of that organization trumps or overrides the rights of other people. Individuals do not have the right of life or death of over another person. Law and order must prevail. Yes, I believe in the death penalty, but I do want to know that the details of the trial were thoroughly vetted, and that they were proven to be guilty of the crime of which they are charged. I want to know that an over zealous was not out for blood, and I want to know that the lawyer chosen to support the accused was not a public defender who did not have the assetts to properly defend the accused.
War is an exception, for there it is kill or be killed. Our leaders must know and understand that war must not be taken lightly. But the people must understand that war in some cases is required. Killing another human being impacts the soul of those who have killed. War will impact the heart and soul of all involved, at the time of the conflict fear in the lives of the warriors is covered by bravado. Later the bravado is replaced by nagging memories and disgust.
People must learn that there are responsibilities with all of their beliefs. Helping a deprived country is the perfect example. The country is deprived for a reason, and throwing money and religion at the country will not solve it's problems. For all of those who wish to help Darfur, please explain how you are going to support them. Gifts and "support" go to the people controlling the country and rarely gets to the people who need to be saved. Who is running that country and what will that money or support do for the controlling force and or the people? Pie in the sky ideas generally meet with reality when the rubber meets the road. Will your idea provide support for those killing the people that you wish to help? What is the history of the region, and what has happened to those who went into that region to support those indigent people. If you know the history of the country or region, you may find that kindness doesn't work, it supports those who are killing. At times, these killers are planning attacks on your country, the USA. Are you wanting to support those who are wanting to kill you, or turn you into their chattel?
I believe in thinking and using rationale based on facts. If you have proveable facts, I am willing to listen, I may or may not change my mind, but I will listen to you. And, I will challenge you, whether I believe what you are saying or not, I want to know the facts and how you believe in those facts.
