I had some occasion to be around Mr. Wynn when I was a banker based on Atlantic City (he had a casino there at the time). He is a remarkable individual. He was buds with Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin and their appearances at Wynn's Golden Nugget were legendary. Unfortunately, old blue eyes violated some obscure NJ Gaming Commission rule and was sanctioned.
Sometime, I'll have to tell you my story about dealing with the Trump organization and the Donald.
I would like to hear it Rem!

Ok, when I was in banking in Atlantic City many years ago I was director of marketing for the South Jersey affiliate of a large New Jersey Bank (now part of BofA). We had ATMs in all the AC casinos. One of the top dogs at one of Trump's Atlantic City casino properties wanted us to provide the names of the gamblers who took cash from the ATM's so they could market them. They determined these people were real losers, using the ATM to get more money than they were counting on losing -- casinos love these suckers. Of course they did not phrase it this way, but it was clear this is how they felt about the ATM users.
At that time, rules about bank secrecy and information sharing were not as rigid as today (pre-Gramm Leach Bliley) but I was still offended by the request to share customer information with that bunch. The guy requesting it we nicknamed, "Little Donald" because it was clear he worshiped and copied his boss. His mannerisms and "lets make a deal" approach were right out of Trump's playbook. And the deal he was offering for us to share customer information? He had spoken to, as he called him, "The Donald". The Donald and Ivana (they were still married at the time) would love to host my wife and I for dinner at "Ivana's, the exclusive restaurant on the property. Plus there would be some gaming afterwards. Even then, I thought "The Donald" to be a pompous jerk, so after I quit laughing, I gave Little Donald my regrets. He probably did not know he was talking to the probably the only non-gambler in Atlantic City.:D

Gov. "Jenny" Granholm is from Michigan. She is part of the Michigan Democratic party that has been in power for decades. As an example of blatant corruption, they installed a state-controlled lottery system and we were told that "all the profit money would go to improving the school systems in Michigan".
The Democtatic legislature back-doored a bill that for every dollar that came from the lottery and into the school fund, a matching dollar would be pulled from the school fund and placed into the GENERAL fund over which the Legislature had complete control. The net effect? All the lottery money goes into the General fund.
The end result?
The schools are still broke. The state government is still corrupt. The roads are still a joke and Jenny is obviously lobbying for a place in BO's administration. Why else would an article about her be published in the Washington Post?
And the idiots in downtown Detroit still vote these thieves back in term after term.
Was delighted to see that Steve put Jenny in her place.

Maybe the MSM will pick up on it . This really is a travesty HH but unfortunately business as usual all over the country. There's only one way it will be stopped.

Rush threw out a great quote the other day to bait the MSM. It was something like, "Most conservatives are opposed to state run lotteries. I on the other hand like them because it is the only way we can generate tax money from the poor".

As usual, Rush is using absurdity to point out the absurd -- in this case the hypocrisy of State-run lotteries. It is this nuance that Libs miss when they take his quotes out of context. Watch how they try to spin the quote.
To me there is nothing sadder than watching those poor folks taking their meager incomes and buying state lottery tickets. Also, the state sanctioning casinos and off-track betting is just taking blood money, IMHO. Maybe because I worked in Atlantic City for a number of years, I saw the devastation the casinos had on the fabric of the city. Small merchants were driven out of business, the Mob infiltrated local politicians and other criminal activities expanded. I used to literally push away beggars and prostitutes when walking to my car after work in a city with 9 (I think it was) glittering casinos.
Opposition to State-sponsored gambling (which politicians like to soften by calling "gaming") is about the only thing upon which I agree with the leadership of my denomination (United Methodist). I've testified at a public hearing and done what I can to try to stop the expansion. In Ohio it is again on the November ballot to permit casinos to be built in the major cities. This has been rejected by the voters numerous times before but our not-so-brilliant Democrat Governor is pushing it to balance the budget. Ironically he is an ordained United Methodist pastor, which has put him at loggerheads with the normally supportive liberal Methodist leadership.
Jobs are being used to justify the new casinos but the bill has millions included to try to combat the crime and other social issues which everyone knows always come with this type of operation. We will see if the voters are duped by the so-called easy jobs or if they see the big picture and say no as they have so often before.

Atlantic city should be the example to use to combat gaming expansion.
Atlantic city, NJ was suppose to be transformed for the better. (where have we heard that kind of talk?) The city is filthy a few feet away from every casino there. Domestic and violent crime is through the roof, drug and alcohol abuse is up, what you mentioned above and the list goes on. Casino owners benefit, the city counsel gets their kick backs and the community gets the scraps. AC NJ is a shit hole outside of the casinos inho. But they do pump your gas :)
