We had a free breakfast at work and I opted out. It feels funny to me. Maybe because I was "only" a reservist for 8 years. Maybe because I really don't care to be the center of attention. Maybe I want the vets, IRR, and active Reserve to get more recognition because they can still be called up at the drop of a hat. Maybe its just me.

You deserve the same respect & honor, though Lucky during your period of service things were ~quiet~, plenty of reservist today are making tremendous sacrifices, it could a been you too!;)

Absolutely -- thanks for your service, Roy.
I dropped by the cemetary to put my usual flags and flowers an my Brothers and dozens of friends that I played with as a child, and I thought how untouched and uncared for most of the graves appeared. No one seemed to care and no one seemed to remember the rice patties or the blood they had spilled so many years ago! Why does an ungrateful nation forget so quickly when soldiers give all they have willingly and those that I visited on Veteran's Day had volunteered between 1965 and 1973, when one of our former President was dodging the draft and many were standing before congress lying their ass off about the hard fought victories of which were complete and tactically superior to most of the battles we fought in WWII! That's right, we won every major battle in Viet Nam including the infamous Tet offensive in which the now late great communist Cronkite decieved an entire nation! So, why does an entire volunteer force travel thousands of miles from home to die in a strange and hostile land? Is it for your freedom and mine...is it so fools can twitter and blog their leftist garbage about how they rape and murder innocent women and children...is it so a marxist can grow up in the greatest nation on God' Green Earth and apoligize on every continent for the blood they willingly spilled...? None of the above! We the Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Marines, Reservist and National Gaurd do it so the battle won't be on our soil and kill our Mothers, Sisters and Wives! We take the battle to the enemy hopefully before they can kill our families like they did at Pearl Harbor or the Towers, or at Ft Hood! We do it knowing full well that half the nation will vote to cut off money, relief troops and support, even while we still are in our fighting holes in a far away land...cut off in the mountains and even surrounded by 10 to 1 odds...we still volunteer to fight so our families will never have too!:(

That just about says it all Jeb! Very well I might add!
I think every single day while our soldiers are in the field that Congress should publicly pray for their victory and safe return!

That isn't asking much at all either. Would damn well be appropriate too.
I might add, that congress publically remind Obama daily, that our Generals and Soldiers are still waiting for his decision on Afghanistan.

Hope everyone enjoyed it. I spent V day getting a tooth drilled on. Was groggy afterward and nearly ran down a small parade of older vets. Needless to say, I didn't feel like free Applebees after that, although it is very nice that some businesses do these still do these things. Then I spent the rest of day trying to sleep it off only to be badgered by a barrage of text messages that said, "happy veteran's day brother," from all my buddies. I'm looking foreword to Thanksgiving so I can total my bike hitting a deer, and choke to death on a turkey bone.

I used my VA loan to buy my first 3 houses. Ironically I dreamed I was out on the range last night. Weird how such short bursts of adrenaline are forever burned into our minds.
I can't remember any of the names of the guys in my reserve unit, but those 2 drill sgt's Guzman and Harris, 8 weeks at Dix and I will never forget their names.
