With the convictions of former Enron Corp. officials Kenneth Lay and Jeffrey Skilling. They were not taken into custody after the conviction so what is keeping them from fleeing before the sentencing? Nothing as far as I can see. had this happened to you or me, we would have been put in jail awaiting the sentencing.

While it is certainly possible that these two could flee, I would be somewhat surprised if they did. As corporate theives I do not believe they would have the instincts which would allow them to hide and blend in, even in countries where we have no extradition agreements they could still be found and with enough pressure there are ways to be taken in. They will do "easier" time than common blue collar criminals and this bothers me as well. I agree that had it been one of us, we would have been carried away immediately.

I dunno about that. Christopher Skase fled to Spain I think it was, and with a lot of BS about his health (which in the end was bad, but initially was a smokescreen) etc, manahed to stay there long enough to actually die without being called to account.

It is ridiculous though that they aren't in custody if they have been convicted. Must be some sort of interim home detention gig.

Yep released on their on recognizance until the sentencing I think is the way it went.
Money talks and to be quite honest if it were me and I could get away, knowing the stiff sentencing that awaits I guess I would flee. But it still is not right.

I'd flee for sure. Buy me a Mexican Sheriff and live like a king down in Mexico.

They probably figure on soft time and early parole for good behaviour. Think about the money they sucked out as wages per day of prison time, and you might find that the pay ain't too bad.

I really think that Kenneth Lay will be probably looking at life, and Jeffrey Skilling somewhere around 20 years. But I may be wrong , we’ll see.
