View Full Version : Green Jobs
Is Obama really that naive that he thinks the future of this country is jobs that require huge government subsidies to stay afloat? All I hear about is new green jobs, what a fricken joke. How about just getting real about drilling in this country, about using resources we have while we invest in technology for real things for the future. Obviously wind farms and solar are no where close to being truly viable and until we admit that and do more work to find true solutions dumping money into these green jobs while locking our economy to the middle east is just killing us. Sorry for the rant but I can't believe how naive these people are.

I agree. These alternative forms of energy may be viable in the very distant future, but in the foreseeable future their existence depends on very heavy government subsidies and passed through penalties and costs for using fossil fuels. In our area, the electric utility was forced by legislation to contact power from solar farms and other alternative energy install solar fields. As a result a huge 80 acre solar farm is under construction -- the largest east of the Mississippi:

Its contribution to the local economy after the construction is completed is minimal -- adds only a few jobs.

Max, here is a link to an excellent article on green energy subsidies with a comparison chart of the costs before subsidies of various energy sources. As nice as wind, biomass solar, etc. seem, they are simply not cost-competitive without massive amounts of government subsidies. I like the subhead of the article: "As Governments Increase Spending and Support for Renewable Power, Even Fans Wonder If Aid Could Be More Efficient."

Thanks for the link Rem, it goes right along with what my thoughts are on going green. The only one that wins on going green is the guy that is making the green deposits into his account at the taxpayers expense. The current green plans we have will never be viable, if we want to invest in green it should be in R&D and not wind farms and solar panels until they get them to a point that they are actually viable.

Again, just another ploy to make the US look and operate like socialistic Europe where massive taxes and energy costs are used as subsidies. Also, interesting that nuclear is often omitted from the conversation, despite its low use of natural resources.

It is in fact these massive susidies and wasted taxes on so-called green Energy that has left the UK and most of Europe in shortages for natural Gas and fuel oil to keep it's people from freezing to death. Old folks burning thick books to stay warm because coal prices are higher than old books like encyclopeidias that they can buy cheap!

why can't they just hire a bunch of people to man the wind mills, hook chains from a bicycle to the wind mill and let them go all lance armstrong on it? seems like it is a good idea to me

LOL, unfortunately with all the vacations, stikes and wine and cheese eating in Europe they don't have enough work ethic to do any productive type of work.:D When was the last time Europe contributed innovation or showed any kind of work ethic? Bunch of socialistic complainers.
