It's a drop in the bucket IMHO. The country is truly ravaged right now and the people are truly in need. The main problem is as usual, 10 cents on the dollar will actually make it to those that are in need. My heart goes out to those in Haiti right now .

The Us Will Spearhead The Donations,... I Do Feel Bad For Them But I Can't Get Past The Huge Donation To A Country That Is Living In Shacks..... Maybe We Can Get Their Government To Help Us In The War On Drugs.....

After reading an article on TASS/ITAR, (I forget why I was over there, think it was a link on another thread here.??????
I looked at an article about how Russia & other nations, Mexico & South American Nations like Venezuela are helping out, NO mention of US efforts!
Sad, the suffering Haitians are going through this moment, worse the long standing poverty of this country & it's corrupted governments, ,must be Bush's fault
I guess I am tired of 3rd world dictatorships that can't wipe their own ass! Though I always feel bad for the sheepeople...I can't see how we can send money or why! Send help in the form of food, human resources, medicine, search and rescue crews...but money...I can't see how we can control where the money will go.

Sam Kinnison had a bit where his suggestion to solve problems like this was not to send them money, but send 'em luggage!!!!
He was referring to all the money we had sent to desert nations. The rest of the routine went like this:
You live in a desert.
It's been a desert for 100 years!!
It will always be a desert!!!
MOVE!!!!!!'
Sorry if this sounds hard-hearted, but 100 million dollars would have gone a long way to putting people back to work. With 30-35% unemployment in Michigan and Barry sending the Coast Guard unit stationed here to Haiti, IMHO it's just stupid.
Why should I expect anything different...

Isn't that the truth.
Without the massive corruption which has infested Haiti for decades, today it could have been a jewel of a vacation spot. Billions of tourist dollars injected into their economy would have helped to "transform" the country into a modern and well built soceity, including modern construction standards that might have saved hundred's of thousand's of lives in the quake.
The fact is, Haiti's leaders have been and still are corrupt, caring not for the people but for themselves, and now America's generous people are stepping up to help.
Unfortunately though for the people there, the majority of monies donated to help is lost through adminastrative costs, incompetence, internal corruption and outside frauds which are all commonalities associated with monstrosity sized charities.

No problems giving money away to Haiti, but Obama has an issue with paying for our own Veterans' war injuries?

I don't believe that Social Security recipients got one either. Whatever index the Feds use came up craps this year. Some years, though, the increases seem to be greater than inflation. Go figure.

Always a fraction less than inflation, Social Security, Veterans & I believe CSRS pensioners got no raises.
Civilian Employees got about a 1.5%
Military Employees got about a 2.5%

Thanks for clarifying. We gave our employees 2% average (range 0 - 5% because we pay for performance). Every employee also received a bonus because we exceeded budget Employees were pleased because they didn't expect one given all the talk about the economy. Don't know how long this will last with bho screwing with taxes and business barriers. Plus they are tring to add another new regulatory agency.
