I'm interested in what the rest of you have to say about this. For myself NASA is supposed to be about more than a hole through which we sink our money. I know that they've screwed up a time or two and that many of us would like to see them further along than they are, but what does one really expect from an institution that is surely choked by bueracracy. However, I also see NASA as a symbol for what this country, and indeed the rest of mankind, are supposed to stand for. Will they really allow this symbol of exploration and achievement to become a global warming lap dog? I don't know too many kids who didn't want to be astronauts at some point in their lives...now I suppose they can all dream of becoming mad glacier guy or Al "ManBearPig" Gore.

Waste, Fraud, and Abuse on a global level...this dude is completely out of touch....or maybe he's just, touched.

Anything to come up with a way to justify spending money. And I agree with Jeb -- the head of NASA is already in the tank with algore and company.

I actually think the whole space program is based on a flawed premise! They believe that far superior alien beings are out there just waiting for us to reach them, and at that time they will share their wisdom with our world! Horseshit! If they are so advanced...would'nt they find us and maybe save us from our primative selves? I know for a fact that we have probed endlessly and found buckus! God is the only Extraterrestrial and NASA does not believe he exist! So, for my tax dollar they can close up shop. ET phone home! My big ole butt!!!

I think NASA represents something. I know the Russians lay claim to "first in space" and they're very proud of it. They also proudly claim "first woman" and "first dog" in space - these small things are even today a source of tremendous pride for Russia. Their space program was not very well coordinated; Russia essentially shot beings into space and hoped they'd survive (they didn't always). But today it remains something that they're very proud of. And that's an understatement. "First" with the space guy in the background is still used in advertising all over the nation. Think about that. It's a powerful motivator and morale builder for a nation that really needs it.

Well, I say sending someone to the moon and back is a far more complicated task. It is a true achievement - the pinnacle of human exploration - and it represents the greatness of this country. It's something we truly can be proud of. Everyone knows this.

Well, Obama is cutting the space program budget for that very reason. We have seen his reading material, his meetings with America-hating dictators, we have heard his preacher and mentor, we know about his radicalized youth and university years. Our president does not share this same pride.

Oh contraire, I believe Michael Jackson was an alien. :)

This president is bound and determined to squander billions in the name of climate change. It truly shows what a fool he really is.

Well said Nelson.
As a side note, the Russians also hold the record for killing that first dog (Laika) while in space. Not by accident, Laika experienced a painful death hours after lift off. America could have beat that record but America held the record for morals over Russia. America would have desired a ticker tape parade in NYC with a heroic returning live dog, rather then stuffing him and putting him in a museum.

Communist Russia is a graveyard of drunks and a failed nation like no other. They are a living testimony to the failure of central planning and socialism. It is amazing how the media never shows clips of the current conditions there, only thing we see is Putin with his shirt off!
