I remember voting for Democrat for Governor of IL. He was a supporter of Guns and was pro-life. The republican was anti-gun. The Dem lost. Don't remember who he was - was like 8 years ago.

It might suprise you to know that there are plenty of progressive and liberal folks who are proud gun owners. People who own rifles and shotguns for hunting and target shooting, handguns for home protection. And who are people who would be very opposed, on principal, to any sort of attempt on the part of the Government to take away these weapons or unduly restrict their right to buy or own them.
What do they mean by unduly? Well, as a start I hope we can agree that its probably a good idea to do everything reasonably possible to keep guns out of the hands of criminals and the mentally unstable. And also that we should restrict the purchase of firearms to adults.
In order to achieve those goals, it seems that there would pretty much have to be some sort of check process whenever someone wants to buy a gun. You need to present some sort of reliable ID to the person selling it, and there be a government checking system to make sure you aren't a felon, etc.
Does this represent a restriction and an inconvenience on owning firearms? Absolutely it does. But if you look at all the other inconveniences and restrictions we accept as the cost of living in a civilized society - (we have to pass a test and get a license to drive a car; we have to go through metal detectors to get on an airplane; we need to get a building permit to put an addition our house) then it really does not seem so onerous to responsible gun owners.
IMHO some "Conservative" groups, and specifically the NRA, tend to make too much of the so-called "slippery slope" argument: ie. that any restriction on the sale or ownership of firearms will somehow inevitably lead to the confiscation of all privately owned firearms. I honestly believe this to be false, and frankly misleading, on their part. Any State or Federal law that does place restrictions on firearms is going to be subject not only to legislative review (ie. voters will let their representatives know if they think the restrictions are too severe) and then ultimately the law will be tested by the Supreme Court. The Courts are very mindful of our 220+ year tradition of legal firearm ownership, as well as the protections and language of the Second Amendment.

I agree with you on most of the points you made except the restrictions i would want to inforce would be guns like 20mm cannons and mini-guns not full auto as they are fun to shoot, but proper lisencing on the full auto guns is reasonable.
but do you really want to have anybody in there who wants to take the guns? accually you dont have to answer that you didnt in your above post when you said you owned them.
im just not confident that there wont be a push for it thats my opinion and trust me i would never try and push stuff like that on anyone else.

I think on the 20mm cannon and miniguns we are probably going to have to disagree. While I agree they might be "fun to shoot" - I believe that the possibilty of them causing way too much damage in the event there was an accident outweighs the "fun to shoot" benefit. And if they were to get into the hands of criminals (as they probably would) - they would cause a huge problem for local law enforcement to deal with.
If you really want to enjoy the thrill of firing automatic cannon or other heavy weapons - then I'd suggest joining a Reserve or National Guard artillery unit. Not only would they provide training on how to properly fire and maintain such weapons, but they'd also pay for the ammunition (not a small expense) and pay you to show up.

i need to rewrite this as it make no sence when i read it
i think that rifle calibers should be sold in full auto mounted .50 machine guns should not. 20mm cannons shoudlnt be sold miniguns no matter how fun shouldnt be sold
but even with the legal full auto's they should have a seperate license
