Question:
The $6500 tax credit for current homeowners only applies if you've actually bought a new (second) home, is this correct, or is it just for residing in the same home for 5 consecutive years?

It is for buyers who currently own a house but want to replace it as a principal residence with either a brand new or an existing home. The cost of the home can be more or less than your current one. You have to have lived in your current home for 5 of the last 8 years. It expires end of April and is expected to cost taxpayers $10 Billion. Here's more details:

Figured, it had something to do with getting people buying houses.

So, let me get this right.... if I run out and buy a house I can't afford, I am eligle to get a $6500 kick back from Uncle Sam (this seems illegal, doesn't it?) but if I stay within my means and stay in the home I am in currently, I get squat. Seems to me like I should sue the fed for fraudulent lending practices. Maybe sue them for encouraging abuse and stupidty.

You got it. Government in action (and our tax money, too.). We almost fell for the trap of taking the $6500 and "moving on up" or maybe "moving on down to Texas". But don't think I could live with myself taking moeny from the rest of you guys.:D

I'd rather you have it, than some Haitian dictator, the Government's already got my money, the question now is up to who they give it to, because they damned sure aren't gonna give it back to me.
....especially if you're moving to TX...I can't believe how close we were to going blue, last election.

Wait until the illegals get amnesty, the border states will all be blue. Which of course is the dems point.

Don't see them interested in voting, only making cash to take back to Mexico...
They use our country as a cash cow, I don't think they care about our state of affairs, as long as they can get cash.

write it down, this is the plan:
give all illegals amnesty & make them citizens
use an ACORN derivative to register them to vote, Democratic of course
purchase votes (aka entitlement programs) to pass a Constitutional Ammendment to eliminate term limits for the office of the President
end game: Obama is President for life
seriously, write it down, seal it in an envelope, open it November, 2012

I don't doubt your vision at all Al. BHO and his minions are capable and willing to break every tie to the basis upon which our Country was built. The are cunning, crafty and ruthless.

We may need a revo...rev... err a "reset"....

it may be ironic but I blame most of what's wrong with the wrong turn our country has been taking with the seeds planted by my generation. I'm 55 years old and we were the ones that pretty much started the "me" stuff. Selfishness to the degree we see it now is our downfall. everything is only about "me" nowadays but even worse it's acceptable and even encouraged.
I want (insert entitlement here)
I don't want (insert duty here)
and how it affects others is of ZERO consequence.
maybe I'm just down and out about what's going on but the whole thing is damn depressing. Watch out though because when we all wake up it WILL be a taking back of this country in an unprecedented way. once we all start giving more then we take again to this greatest of countries.

I agree with you (I am just a few years older). Our generation is not our parents' one which was "The Greatest Generation". The seeds of our demise were sown during the late '60's and the drug/hippie era when we as a generation began adopting leftist ideas and worldview. It was a time of self-centered "finding yourself" punctuated with so-called "peace" beliefs. Many of us outgrew this crap once we matured and logic and common sense replaced the feel-goodism. But a large remnant of leftist ideologues remain and they are BHO and his advisors/spiritual leaders, etc. Woodstock has returned and taken control. Only the drugs have gone underground (but I suspect they are still being consumed in the inner circles -- how else can you explain their crazy ideas?)

My parents, born in 1944 and 1950, had me when they were very young (I'm 39 now). They chose a different path through the sixties, and today they retain a very conservative world view. It has served us well; for this, and for them, I am eternally grateful. I'm equally grateful for other folks from their generation who did not lose themselves. They provide the same influence. Honestly guys, we need people like you who are more experienced and wiser... to look up to and help steer us... because there are just so many boneheads in this world. I know for a fact that, despite the millions of socialist sixties losers (who, I agree, seem eternally clouded by the emotionalist influence of drugs) there is still a strong component of this generation that holds the greatness of their parents and grandparents. We're going to beat this wave of commie bastards!!

I agree nelson that there are many of us that see this leftist ideology for what it is. I smell it a mile away and have seen first hand the insidious ways it removes our freedoms and the great spirit of American exceptionalism and enterprise. I want no part of being a European style socialist nanny state and am doing what I can to stop bho's efforts. Hopefully there are enough of us and those in your generation to stop this before it achieves critical mass.

Texas used stimulus money in a cash for clunkers appliance program. $23 million was gobbled up by 39,000 people in 6 hours. That's $589.75 per person. Were they giving the appliances away?

Probably people going out and buying the most expensive water heater for the biggest rebate...I wonder if there's any kind of stipulation that takes the money back, if they return the appliance, and buy a cheaper one 100% on taxpayer nickel.

They have a similar program in ohio. An appliance dealer customer told me there is a way to keep your old appliance after replacing it with an energy star model and getting the tax credit. He said a lot of the old refrigerators are now serving as beer coolers in garages and rec rooms. Now that is saving energy!

For every entitlement program they come up with, there's countless ways to exploit it...which is why they'll never work, yet they'll continue to waste our money on them.
