And so it begins....
WASHINGTON (Reuters) – President-elect Barack Obama's plans to overhaul the U.S. healthcare system would cost the federal government $75 billion the first year but would provide health insurance for 95 percent of Americans, consulting firm PriceWaterhouseCoopers said on Wednesday.
This works out to about $2,500 per newly insured person, the firm said in a report.
"The plan would increase to $1 trillion cumulatively by 2018 or approximately $130 billion per year," the report said....

We are the only major nation with out national health care and this is long over due. The reason it hasn't happened up to this point is there is too much money to be made and insurance company and drug makers like it that way. When we could go to Canada and buy the same prescriptions at half the price some thing is very wrong.

And yet the Canadians routinely cross the border to get health care here because their nationalized system takes too long.
I agree we should be allowed to purchase meds from Canada. That is just a stupid regulation the med company lobbyists put in place.
Technically, we have national health care already. You will not be refused at an emergency room with a serious injury/illness.
If you think it will bring about preventive care... you are sadly mistaken. First, most people who have insurance they pay for, do not use preventative health care. Second, if there was an in-rush of people taking advantage of these benefits, there would be months-long waits similar to Europe and Canada. No thanks.
My insurance company approved me for a CPAC machine, but when I saw the clinic was charging the insurance $2600 for a $600 machine, I told them no thanks. Plus I think the whole sleep study thing is a farce, now that I've been through it.

BO bases that on the health care costs lowering by his proposed plan. This assumes that people do not leave their company plans for the gov't one (such as what happened in Hawaii, bankrupting that plan in 7 months). It also assumes the insurance companies pass the savings on to the consumer (now that's funny) and doesn't pocket the profit.
There are a lot of people who will still say $2500 is too much and remain unisured. What happens to them when they are hurt or get sick?
There are huge holes in this plan. The gov't is not effective in running things efficiently.

Yes we can!
Cuz we know the government is far, far more qualified. I mean, look how effiecient our congress is with spending money? Pretty damn frugal, don't you think?

Our elected officials have a great health care system that we pay for, they've used this system for a good while and it seems to work. There no reason they can't supply us with the same.

Actually they have a lot of perks... so we should get the same? Their system works becase 300 million people support a system that benefits far fewer. I'm all for a 30 day paid vacation like the gov't employees, or wait how about 6 hour work days 4 days a week like congress. I want that. Oh and I really deserve a staff to support me as opposed to doing my own work.... where does it end????
