Guys I've been looking at all of the GOP candidates carefully. Not one of them struck me as the candidate we truly need to turn this nanny state around. That is, until a few weeks ago, when I decided to start paying closer attention to Dr. Ron Paul.

As with the other candidates, I researched Paul's positions on my own. I read his writings. I watched Youtube videos of his appearances, interviews, and speeches.

Some of the things I discovered:
Ron Paul has consistently advocated free market principles and Austrian economics for decades. That is exactly what we need to turn this ship around.
No other candidate has announced a plan with the kind of immediate spending cuts in Ron Paul's Plan to Restore America (http://c3244172.r72.cf0.rackcdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/10/RestoreAmericaPlan.pdf). He wants to close five cabinet level departments: HUD, Interior, Commerce, Education, and Energy. He wants to zero out foreign aid. And he wants to give us all the ability to opt-out of Social Security and Medicare. These are serious methods of dealing with serious problems.
Our military servicemen and women donate far more money to Ron Paul, the "bring em home now" candidate, than they donate to anyone else (link (http://www.politifact.com/texas/statements/2011/jul/23/ron-paul/ron-paul-says-members-military-have-given-him-far-/)). This tells me there is no worthy mission in the middle east - if there were our armed forces would never give up on it. Regardless of how we got ourselves into these messes, it seems to me their financial vote is evidence enough that we're wasting our time and spending the lives of our men and women needlessly. I have to believe they know best.
Ron Paul is castigated, ridiculed, then ignored by both sides of the political establishment. If the Ron Paul spin were true, he would be front and center in every debate - the left would be trumpeting him in order to bury the GOP. But Dr. Paul received 89 seconds of air time in the last debate. The political establishment in this country is our major problem, from every bureaucrat in Washington to nearly every talking head with TV time... and it is clear to me that none of them want Ron Paul in the White House. Of all the men on stage at each debate, Ron Paul is the biggest threat to their gravy train.

I'll be watching the Communist News Network tonight (11/22/11) to catch the latest GOP debate, which apparently intends to focus on foreign policy. To be honest, I feel like I know what most of the candidates will say. What I really want to hear is more about Ron Paul's non-interventionist approach. I believe this is what the founders intended - since WW1 we've been acting as the world police, an approach which allows government to swell and drives us toward international rule. In my view this little experiment has got to end!
