I learned today from a food stamp recipiant that we tax payers in Florida are providing each and every one of them a cell phone. WHY. This state is like all the rest right now can't balance the budget. Every night on the news i hear all sorts of crying about not having any money in the states coffers, just tonight they had the state troopers writing tickets to make up the shortfall. They said they were raising the price of fines. We had to buy all these phones, and i wonder what that cost. And then to pay lord knows how many phone bills. This just ain't right damn-it. I will get to the bottom of it. I will be writing letters and making calls starting tommorrow.

sorry
Cajun, down the street from me a woman moved in 6 years ago. She purchased her house during the peak of prices in this area, not to worry she told me the government subsidizes her house payment. She pays less then I did buying mine for half as much. She is probably 40 years old and hasn't worked a day she has lived here, she draws social security (disabled, grossly obese) and food stamps. She has a new boy friend move in about every three or four months, they stay a month and move on. All this on our nickel.
Early in 2008 when my Jeannie was diagnosed terminal I was told to contact social security. I did and they told me forms had to be filled out. After all Jeannie paid in for 24 years. Well it seems between our savings and bank accounts we owned too much to collect a penny of Jeannie's social security even though she was disabled and cobra was running us 1200 a month by itself. Of course I found this out after I had to drag her down to the social security office. Jeannie and I were the oldest two people in the place out of 50 people. Most were mothers with children, lots of them and about half didn't speak english. Such a shame that Jeannie paid in all those years and the only thing she got was a 255$ death benefit after she passed away. But those that never pay in and have more children then they can support and some I'm sure aren't even citizens are able to draw funds. Our country is in a world of shit right now is all I can say.

Sounds like the cell company found a loop hole and not a government agency making cells available.

It's a freaking government program paid for by money from the mandatory "Universal Service Fund, which phone companies pay to supply citizens with affordable telecommunications. Most of the money comes from charges on phone customers’ bills." Go ahead and split hairs if you want to G, but it is a tax on the rest of Florida cellphone customer who pay for their own service.

Exactly right. The standard of living for our poor is far from what it is in the rest of the world. And much of it is brought on by their own bad choices, bad choices of their parent(s) and failure to take responsiblity for their own actions. Liberal approach to government assistance has certainly enabled it, too. But what do I know -- I am just a dumb hick who sometimes watches Fox and likes guns.

Guess what I did yesterday????
I emailed a link to the gov't-sponsered-wireless nutjob website to my favorite POD caster Darrell Ankarlo on ktar, in Phoenix Arizona with "this will make you vomit" in the subject line. It was the entire 9:00 hour. Hilarious!
If you get the free PODcast for 1/13/09 "Ankarlo Mornings" and go to 17:00 minutes and listen. It's free. I'm "Roy the fine listerner form DFW" :D
