The welfare mentality of people today is just staggering. This is an e-mail I got from guy I ordered a book from that I have yet to receive. I sent an e-mail to him just the other day checking on the order and his response was that it should be in any day now.

Order ID: XXX-XXXXX-XXXX

This was my response.

Thanks for your concern on my feedback.

MY CONCERN however, is on receiving my product (which has yet to arrive).

Technically it is not going to be late until 1/19/09, however I ordered this
item back on 12/26/08. Today marks the THIRD complete week that this order has
been in progress. I can't think of any shipping scenario short of international
shipping where a single book should take this long to arrive at it's
destination. I have since placed several orders with other book sellers and
other types of vendors and have received my product in a timely manner. I
challenge you to compete at their level of proficiency.

Please be advised that your employment status, the state of the economy, the spirit of "sticking together", etc. will have no bearing whatsoever on my
feedback. My feedback will be based strictly on what it should be based on -
your performance in the delivery of my product. If I am truly a valued customer as you open your e-mail with, you will get my book to me ASAP.

Most Sincerely,

jw

In the time it took him to craft that message he could have mailed you the book (assuming he even has it). I sympathize with his situation but as they say, "business is business".

The whole feedback system on ebay and other sites is a joke anyway. Many sellers do not leave feedback until the item arrives and you leave them feedback. In a word they hold feedback for ransom until they get good feedback. IMHO if your the buyer and you pay immediately with paypal or some other fashion you completed your agreement in a timely manner and should get instant positive feedback. To ask for feedback without the arrival of a product would inspire me to give them a negative feedback.

Yeah I agree, but I still try to be gracious about providing good feedback when it's deserved.

I guess what frosts me most about this is that I contacted the guy just two days ago asking him where my book was, then he comes back with "lost my job, blah, blah, blah".

Like Remphoto - I feel for the guy. Clearly he's fallen on rough times and appears to be trying to make the best of it, but for him to expect me to leave positive feedback just because of that when I haven't even received the merchandise yet is ridiculous - especially when I did him the courtesy of contacting him (I was resepctful in my e-mail) and letting him know I still haven't received the book.

I know - I'm a hard@ss, but that's just how I roll... :coffee

Some of us would call it "tough love". To have replied with just sympathy would have made him feel good but not have been helpful to the success of his enterprise. If he listens to what you said and produces results, he will have more customers. Somewhere in this comment is the difference between the conservative and liberal mentaility, I believe.:)

Sometimes those that cry the loudest have the least to cry about and or brought they're misery on themselves. Just a different slant (middle of the road slant)
