THIS IS SOME SCARY STUFF
No, I knew the sprint Layoff was coming after talking with a friend from Sprint several weeks back. The worst part is that the stock market still ended up 50 points for the day, now make sense of that.

It's typical big corporation methods. They claim they can't cut costs so they cut workers and artificially drive up productivity by killing the people they have left.

MyCar is right on about this. One of a company's largest controllable costs is payroll and related benefit expenses. When business slows, workforce is adjusted. The alternative is to pay people to not work (like the Autoworker Labor Pools which have added to the demise of the Beg 3). It is not something a company of any size enjoys doing. It is costly to the company in that unemployment taxes increase and it is difficult to resume production when demand returns. But sometimes it is necessary for the company to survive and be competitive.
