I don't mean to be disloyal, but this is not the only political forum I take part in, as I have grown more and more compelled to debate and understand different political points of view. However, sometimes these people make me so very very angry...so angry that I want to fly out of the screen and break their ingrateful noses. Read this quote:
"When the baby boomers die off do you think we will be able to stop pretending to care about World War II?"
His premise was that it would make Europe feel better if we could just forget the war ever happened.

Yeah, we could forget the war ever happened. But if it hadn't we'd all be bearing Swastikas on our sleeves and speaking German, so... perhaps we'd better remember it eh?

Yes, of course from an educational standpoint we must never forget the past or we are doomed to repeat it. I know it's a cliche' but history does repeat itself and if you know your history you can help counter situations before they get out of hand, but that's not what pissed me off the most. How can someone simply disrespect an entire generation of men and women, across the globe, who gave their lives willingly to protect what they thought was right? Specifically, when said generation is still alive.

Right, G. Exactly. At least here we tend to quable about the technical side of politics and our own interpretations on how it works. This forum seems interested in political theory and ideology. We all seem to be educated enough, or raised right, or whatever you want to blame it on in a manner that is conducive to debate even if we don't agree with each other.
Can you imagine trying to debate the issues we discuss without a solid foundation. I can only imagine the frustration from having to explain to someone that the Russians didn't bomb Pearl Harbor in order to explain the cold war so that we could finally begin to debate the economic differences between Reagan and Clinton.

I REALLY DISLIKE MOST OF MY GENERATION, THEY HAVE NO SENCE OF WHAT TO DO AND HOW TO DO IT. ALL THEY CARE ABOUT IS WHAT THEY CAN GET AND HOW MUCH THEY CAN DRINK IT'S KINDA DEPRESSING. I BLAME IT ON THE SCHOOLS, WHAT OTHER REASON CAN EXPLAIN OUT OF A GRADUATING CLASS OF 500 ONLY ABOUT 150 ACTUALLY GRADUATING THE REST GETTING A CERTIFICATE OF ATTENDENCE? WE ARE BREEDING LAZYNESS AND NOT HELPING THOSE THAT THEY TO PROSPER IT BELIEVE IT WILL BE MY GENERATION WHO WILL BRING THIS COUNTRY TO IT'S KNEE'S.

Don't worry MYCAR, it's not as bad as it seems. I suspect we're roughly the same age and almost certainly from the same generation. I graduated from a rinky dink town in Oklahoma from a class of 82. Some of the people whom I graduated with were presumed dead Sophomore year. Come to think of it, some of those people are dead now. However, a lot my buddies are engineers, dentist, orthodontists, you name it. Me, I'm a schitzo sometimes college student sometimes soldier and I have greatly failed to live up to my potential, but damnit I'm not done yet and it's not too late for the rest of our generation either.
I should refrain from pointing out that the average age our generation leaves our families homes is like 27, but we can blame the mortgage crisis when that number jumps to 30.:)

Well... all I can say is I dropped out of the 10th grade at 17 (yeah, do the math) to join the Army. They made me get my GED and I turned out OK I guess...;)

Johnny I was 17 in the 10grade and I wish I would've dropped out and gotten a GED. I started late because of my parents' divorce and then got jammed into pre-first which is the stupidest program I've ever encountered. My school obviously misinterpreted the gifted students as somehow unwilling to learn and held us all back a year. What's worse is I can back up the previous statement.
The class ahead of mine, after the pre-first debacle, graduated with four academic standout. My class consisted of somewhere in the neighborhood of 30/82 students who ended up taking college algebra in the 8th grade, participated in the GTI program and most of us got a high enough score on the ACT to get scholarships in the 9th grade, myself included. By 10th grade we were all bored out of our minds, but the school district wouldn't entertain the notion of advancing students to the next grade because that would mean less funding for the school district. And that is the story of how I became a 20 year old freshman who was tired of schooling by the time I got to college and just wanted to drink...hello Army National Guard recruiter get me the hell out of here.

Well, the Army and National Guard is what got me through college. No help from the family at all, but the GI Bill made it possible for me. Spent 15 years in and don't regret a minute of it (although there are some things I definitely wouldn't want to do again... ) ;)

The Army helps a lot. Without the GI Bill I couldn't finish up, even if my paperwork wasn't screwed to all hell and back. The only issue I have with the National Guard is the way I tend to react too it, and it's just my personal issue. I come back from deployments all fire and rage, but on a positive note I've got the NCO mindset of working hard and standing tall to set a good example for the people around me. A year after deployments I could give a flip if I go to class or go to the bar. So, I've implemented a pattern where I try to deploy then go to school for a year or so, deploy then go to school for a year or so, repeat. Too this end it sometimes feel like I'm going nowhere fast, but hell I got the V out of the deal and even got to rub it in my First Sergeant's face cause his wife wouldn't let him buy one.

Sad... I was in Desert Storm. One of the guys in my unit had a wife, a house and a car when he left. When he got back the wife had spent all his money, moved out of the house, sold the car and shacked up with some guy. The poor dude was practically homeless when he got home.
I had just gottena divorce at the time, so I wasn't married and wasn't dating anyone regular. I left someone in charge of my finances while I was gone and of course you have direct deposit when you're in the sand box. I was saving my money for a new car, or so I thought. When I got back that person had spent a huge chunk of my money too. I had some left, but not a lot.
What are you gonna do? You just shrug and move on...

Sadly, this sort of thing happens all the time. Our divorce rate was astronomical. Something like 90 percent of one our companies got served, even though you're not supposed to be able to do that over there and of course the bank accounts were cleared out.
A lot of Johnny's first scenario took place, while one guy's own mother sold him out. It's a wonder we don't have more violent issues with all the demobilizing troops stateside. If I spent a year in that hell only to come home broke and find some dude f ing my wife and fishing with my kids, I fear someone would get shot.

I've got to share this story and I doubt the guy would mind as he was proud about his reaction. It's also a little rusty as he told me this story when I was a PFC.
The dude was a marine during Dessert Storm/Dessert Shield and he gets off the boat back home waiting for his family. Eventually, everyone there is gone but him so he assumes his wife didn't know he was coming home. He catches a cab back home to find the door ajar and the grass two feet high. He asks his neighbors where his wife and kids are and they tell him. Arriving at Jodie's house he puts it all together and goes to get on his Harley, that he for some reason financed over seas, but allowed the wife to insure in his name. The little woman comes storming out and tells the dude that she had the bike's title tranfered to Jodie's name while she was his power of attorney. She does inform him that he can have their spare junker pickup as it is still in his name. He gets in the truck and plows over the Harley repeatedly before driving away.
