View Full Version : Union Leadership Hypocrisy?

Seems the AFL-CIO Union Execs are holding their winter meeting at a luxury Miami resort (Fountainebleau). Rooms start at $400 a night. These are some of the same people who made such a ruckus about executive management pay. While their members are suffering, they are spending their union members' dues. Wonder how that looks to the rank & file? :D

That's so lame, they are in rooms that start at 400 and go to 1500 a night. Your kidding when people are losing jobs that they are doing this.

Don't you wish it were you down there having a paid "vacation" rather than sending the big guys with your dues? I do see they are meeting with Joe Biden -- probably giving he and BO their marching orders. :D

This meeting was set up 3 YEARS AGO !!!!!

I watched the interview on Faux TV and the room rates where $200.00 a night union special rate.

The hotel was rebuilt or restored by union labor and the rest of the staff is union. The fox guy doing the interview thought he had something with the prices of the room till the union guy told him they where $ 200.00 a night and then you could have bought the fox boy for a penny.

It's my money too and I hope they enjoy themselves.

I'm sure the Employee free choice act was on the to do list. :D

You've gotta love Fox News. Here are some numbers they ought to be telling you folks:

According to the latest NBC/Wall Street Journal poll.

Percentage of Americans who have a favorable view of the Republican party: 26%

Percentage of people giving Pres. Obama a favorable rating: 68% (An historical high)

And since we're looking at the high cost of staying in hot, sandy places.

Cost of keeping one US soldier in Iraq for one year: ~$390,000

That works out to a cool thousand bucks a day, with change left over for tips and walking around money. I think the AFL-CIO membership got a better deal.

Actually, after 9/11, Bush had nearly a 90% approval rating....

What is Pelosi's approval rating, TT? How about Reid's? How about Congress? What is BO's compared to Jimmy Carter at this point in his Presidency? How about BO's rating now compared to after the coronation? Not looking quite so good for your side is it? Be careful standing in a glass house while throwing your stones.

Who gives a flying shit about Nancy Pelosi's approval rating? Or, for that matter, John Boehner and Mitch McConnell.

Its easy to rail about Nancy Pelosi. But guess what? 99.8% of Americans will never have to vote for Nancy Pelosi - she is the Representative for one small district in California.

You keep missing the point.

Republicans are (apparently) beholden to a a radio entertainer, who is literally despised by a huge swathe of the American public. Forget about winning the votes of African-Americans, or Latinos. Or any immigrant group. Or women. Or young voters. Or college-educated voters. etc. etc. Keep on "supporting the base" - which apparently consists of angry white southern males.

Question: Who were these guys going to vote for anyway?

Read David Frum (http://www.newmajority.com/ShowScroll.aspx?ID=d22fe4c9-6f8c-4c0d-93af-aed79ad3b467) on why Republicans have got to stop sucking up to Rush Limbaugh.

And for the leader of the Republicans? A man who is aggressive and bombastic, cutting and sarcastic, who dismisses the concerned citizens in network news focus groups as “losers.” With his private plane and his cigars, his history of drug dependency and his personal bulk, not to mention his tangled marital history, Rush is a walking stereotype of self-indulgence – exactly the image that Barack Obama most wants to affix to our philosophy and our party. And we’re cooperating! Those images of crowds of CPACers cheering Rush’s every rancorous word – we’ll be seeing them rebroadcast for a long time.

Thanks for making my point. You are so predictable. Blow off my point about the polls regarding your people, then shift to the Whitehouse talking points of settiing up Limbaugh as the straw man:

http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0309/19596.html

Then end with a personal rant against Rush. Your hate for him is so apparent it has clouded what at times seems to be rational thinking on your part. You and your travelers just don't get it at all. Thanks for making my evening.:rofl

I know if I wrote an expense report for $200 (the "union" discount) a night, I would be called on the carpet with some serious explaining to do.

This is where you see how "out of touch" the union/politicians et al really are. I am told to treat company money as if it were my own. Technically as a stock holder, it is my money. I could not stay in a $200 a night room and be able to resolve that with my ethics.

This case is worse, because this money is extracted from the pockets of workers. If I were in the union, I would stage a revolt over this. Who cares if the plans were made 3 years ago. Our company just cancelled a large gathering of Operations employees and lost a lot of deposit money, but it was the "right" thing to do.

The salient point is this: The AFL-CIO hasn't just received billions in taxpayer bailout dollars.

If anyone should be criticising the Union leaders for this - it should be union members themselves. Which they aren't.

When Fox News reports on an AFL-CIO affilitated local expressing outrage over this junket, maybe I'll pay attention. Until that happens - its just noise.

Amazing that you could type all that and completely side step the issue of approval ratings since you were the one who originally brought them up, then as Rem pointed out turn around and begin spewing hate and venom towards Rush.

I guess I've given you too much credit, I though you had a little creativity to your bloviating, but apparently you get your marching orders straight from the dem/lib talking points just like everyone else.

I find it interesting that you people are so fixated on someone you continue to insist is irrelevant. I think you guys secretly have a thing for Rush... ;)

:rofl:rofl

Finally - the TRUE salient point is that this is not necessarily about taxpayer money per se, it's about hippocrisy which seems to be the norm for libs.

Supposedly, the sole reason for the AFLCIO leaders' existence is to look out for the working man's interest. They continually criticize corporations for exploiting workers, yet they think nothing of taking membership dues and spending it on accomodations (and who knows what other perks) at this lavish resort.

Indeed, we're not hearing anything from the membership on this - any guess why? Could it be perhaps that they would suffer consequences for speaking out against the union? Hmmm....???

Those "master negotiators" should have been able to better then that. We get the Niles Inn for $49 a night for crying out loud.

We are under strict orders to not travel in 2009. We have been told to conduct our business electronically wherever possible (the union hotshots could do that too). They made an exception for me to do some field work in Idaho in April which has some of the other engineers jealous :D

Isn't that the hotel where you can roll your bike right in and do an oil change right next to your bed? If that's the case then $49 seems reasonable for shared sleep rack and grease rack space.:D

Yes it is. Great deal for sure. Who really needs to pay more to sleep for a few hours. I could not live with myself for wasting such money whether it be my money or the unsuspecting people's money I am supposed to be representing on this Biden **** s***ing vacation.

Unless I looked at the wrong hotel it looks like you paid too much. :D

The price of freedom is priceless. Not to mention they have a conference hall and amenities for such a gathering that happened down south.
